After the issue with visiting a GP, my mum reached out to our amazing speech pathologist who suggested that we make a profile about me and how I can communicate. It is a very simple one-page dot point information sheet that give the GP a quick summary about who I am, how I ask and receive information. I recommend that others do this to if they are having problems with explaining about CP or the way you communicate or the supports that you need to make the medical visit better. Remember, with me it all takes time to communicate, get into the building or room and have a medical assessment. Sometimes it is best to book a double appointment with the GP which for me is bulk-billed, but this can be tricky with Specialists who charge a lot of money. In this case they need to understand that an hour session might go to 2 hours, but they should only bill for one. A good idea is to talk about time on your profile sheet.
