I left the Royal Children’s Hospital when I was 18 years old. I had a lovely graduation ceremony but felt a bit sad about not being at RCH and leaving the doctors and specialists that I knew, and they knew me so well. They were a great team that work together to help me with my medical issues. Everything was in the one place, and everyone understood my needs and way of communicating. I was recommended to go to St Vincent Young Adult Complex team who were based near me at Kew who were very helpful and caring, and they worked as a team, but this program is only for a short time until you find your new medical team. It was very difficult to find out which GP or medical specialists to go to and who would understand me. Some recommendations of medical professionals worked out, but others did not. We are always still looking for what ideas of who to see from our friends. Sometimes to medical specialist is good but the environment is not accessible. It takes time and can be frustrating. You need lots of patience.
